Dr. Pyakurel published two articles in two different journals

Dr. Uddhab Pyakurel, Assistant Professor of School of Arts, published an article titled “The BRI, Nepal’s Expectations, and Limitations on Nepal–China Border Relations” in the journal Issues and Studies (A social Science Quarterly on China, Taiwan and East Asian Affairs) Vol. 55 (03), September 2019.

The article states that China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as a useful means for the India-locked country to connect to other countries, analyzes the weakening connectivity within the border areas of Nepal and Tibet since falling under Chinese control, and concludes that China is also slow to increase cross-border movement and trade facilities with Nepal due to perceived security concerns.

Dr. Pyakurel’s another article titled “Reflecting the Nepali Social Forum processes and 2018 event” is published in the special issue of journal Globalization (Taylor and Francis).

This article reflects on one experiment that grounds the politics of World Social Forum in national and regional struggles. Nepal has now built a dynamic but fragile democratic process after a decade-long Maoist insurgency that led to political transformation including secularism, republicanism, etc. The analysis is particularly relevant for political movements seeking ways forward in a political situation marked by sectarian struggles but also by the need to bring unity in the struggle against externally induced forces of oppression and exploitation.
