The Bachelor of Arts in English and Mass Communication & Journalism (BA-EMCJ) is an intensive four-year academic program offered by the Department of Languages and Mass Communication at Kathmandu University, School of Arts. Designed to nurture creative and critical thinkers, the program combines the study of English language and literature with the dynamic practices of journalism and digital media. BA-EMCJ introduces students to a rich blend of literary and cultural studies, journalistic practice, and multimedia storytelling. The curriculum integrates core courses from both English as well as Mass Communication & Journalism, while also drawing ideas from interdisciplinary areas such as academic writing and professional communication. In an age of rapid technological transformation, the program emphasizes the enduring power of human stories with meaningful communication strategies preparing students with the expressive tools needed for a wide range of professions. Graduates, hence, are prepared to become critical thinkers, thoughtful writers, and ethical media practitioners who are capable of influencing world cultures and contemporary discourse around them.

Teaching Methodology
- Classroom Interaction/Brainstorming Ideas: Students join discussions in their regular class that comprehensively involve them in thinking deeper and smarter.
- Discussion/Interaction:Industry professionals and experts will be invited to the University where students listen to their experiences.
- Studio Coordination: Writing labs, Media Hubs, and Create Newsrooms Module
- Field Visit: Students will gain first hand experience interacting in societal, natural, and cultural issues while visiting the educational, media and financial institutions around them in and, most possibly, outside Nepal.
- Presentation: Participate in presentations and maintain portfolios.
- Project Enhancement: Students collaborate on works like reports and multimedia stories, and investigative stories even after their graduation.
Admission Requirements and Process
All applicants must have completed their high school (10+2) or equivalent education in any discipline. Candidates seeking admission must take an Entrance Examination as required by Kathmandu University. Affordable fees, and scholarships are available for needy and meritorious students.

- CGPA Requirements: The student must maintain an aggregate of CGPA of 3.00 or above after completing the required 120 credit hours. If the aggregate CGPA is less than 3.00, the student will have to repeat certain courses until they maintain the required CGPA. For this the university will assist needy students for further guidance.
